Injuries are something that most certainly can’t be avoided, no matter how hard we try; however, we can do all we can to help prevent those injuries from being severe.
Proper stretching, eating the right foods, listening to our bodies, all help with the prevention of injuries.
One company that covers all areas of athletic injuries is Pro-Tec Athletics.
Pro-Tec Athletics has everything covered from skin protection to particular injuries the body may endure.
Running4theMasses was able to start a relationship with Pro-Tec Athletics, and we were privileged enough to get our hands on the Pro-Tec Roller Massager and Pro-Tec Foam Roller
1st, the Roller Massager:
From the Pro-Tec Website:
General Application: Great tool to reduce muscle tightness, soreness, and pain! The raised Vynafoam’ sections “sink” into soft tissue to roll out tightness and the rounded grip ends provide precision trigger point release to loosen knots in the muscle.
Medical Applications: The Roller Massager stretches muscles and tendons, breaks down soft tissue adhesion, and soothes tight fascia while increasing blood flow and circulation to the soft tissues. Deep tissue stimulation and massage maximizes muscle performance and flexibility!
How It Works: By rolling the Roller Massager along the area of tightness, you can perform a self-massage or Myofascial release. Myofascial release has been shown to relieve various muscle and joint pains such asIT band syndrome and shin splints as well as improving flexibility and range of motion. A full color instruction manual covering over 20 massage and trigger point release techniques for your entire body is included.
Product Design: 22″ long
My personal thoughts:
WOW. All of us get that tightness or soreness after runs that sometimes takes a few days to go away from time to time. This product is a revelation. It is the perfect size to reach almost any area for extra stretching. The roller itself is perfectly constructed, and the pads on the roller do their job of massaging any area of need when pressure is applied. Also, the grips/handles are great as well, and serve a dual purpose as being able to use them to apply pressure to certain areas of distress for pinpoint accuracy on relieve any soreness, stress, or tension.
I’ve been using the Roller Massager for a little over a week after all of my runs, and even after stretching, I didn’t realize that I had other areas that we not really getting stretched enough or properly.
I mostly get some stiffness after running in my calves and my quads, and from time to time, my feet. This has been heaven-sent. I spend about 5 minutes or so on each calf after my stretching, and I can really feel the benefits of the deeper, more pinpoint massaging action. On my calves, I can feel the soreness subside, and usually, the next day, I’ve been pain-free where without the use of the massager, I’ve had soreness. I do the same for my quads and hamstrings, and it has had the same effect. As for my feet, this has been great. By standing up, and placing my foot on top of the massager and rolling it under my feet, it has served a purpose of helping relieve soreness under my feet, and I’ve felt a little more flex and relief after 5 minutes on each foot. It serves the same purpose as massage balls for the feet.
Now, for the Foam Roller.
From the Pro-Tec Website:
General Application: Great tool for stretching, promoting flexibility and Myofascial Release! Alleviates muscle and soft tissue tightness of the upper and lower back, IT band, hamstring, adductors, upper arm, and much more!
Medical Applications: The high density Foam Roller stretches muscles and tendons, breaks down soft tissue adhesion, and soothes tight fascia while increasing blood flow and circulation to the soft tissues.
How It Works: Using your own body weight and a Foam Roller, you can perform a self-massage or Myofascial release. By applying gentle, sustained pressure on the soft tissues, Myofascial release results in softening and lengthening of the fascia. Myofascial release has been shown to relieve various muscle and joint pains such as IT band syndrome and shin splints as well as improving flexibility and range of motion.
*Four color exercise program included!
Here are my thoughts after the use of the product.
I found that this high density roller has served my best for my back and quads, as well as extra and deeper stretching of the calf muscles. After rolling on the foam roller, I have felt how deep it can really get in my quads, and it has felt great. My legs have felt fresher the next day, and like the massager, I have loved not waking up and having trouble moving. And my back, what a relief. I won’t say it is like having your own chiropractor in your house, but the benefits of the foam roller have released so much tension in my back I didn’t know existed, I’ve felt great!!!!
To Sum Things Up:
- Ease of use of both the roller massager and the foam roller (both come w/ a color instruction manual)
- Noticeable deep tissue massaging of the muscles and the feeling of things “being stretched out”
- The multiple functions of both items to hit just about any trouble area you may feel you need additional assistance with getting stretched out.
