So, this weekend was outstanding for running. The weather was cool, I felt good, and I got in some decent mileage, and along the way, I met some new running friends.
Over the weekend, I was introduced to a great group of runners in the Omaha area, G.O.A.T.Z (Greater Omaha Area Trail Runnerz), and man am I glad I met them.
As my marathon training heats up, I wanted to add a little change to my normal plan, and get back out on the trails, but in an area I had not run before. I posted a request on a Facebook page, and within minutes, I was invited to join this group for a run on Sunday morning, and get a first hand look at a trail I had not been familiar with. What a great decision I made by accepting the offering, and meeting up with the G.O.A.T.Z. for a run.
Not only did I have an incredible run and workout in for my own quest, I was given a more in-depth look and understanding of the G.O.A.T.Z. They have spent a great deal of man-hours cultivating and shaping a trail that will test even the most experienced runners. They are so motivated to help get a better understanding of trail running out the general public, they hold all types of runs, open to the public for all to join, meet other runners, and become a part of this great group. On top of that, they have a 50K trail race planned for October 28, and it will include race distances for any level of runner. I’m definitely looking to add this to my running schedule if it all works out.
If you are interested in trail running/racing, please check out this groups Facebook page and website (I’ve got links to both posted on the right-hand side of the website). I want to thank @GreatGoats for their kindness and willingness to allow me to join their ranks for a run. It was truly an honor to run with you guys. The motivation you gave me to keep up will help me on my quest, and I look forward to racing with you all in the near future.
